Stuck in a job search rut?
1️⃣ Give Yourself Grace.
It continues to be a tough market for job seekers. Know you aren't alone, and you are doing your best. That is all you can ask of yourself.
2️⃣ Step Away from Your Computer.
When your head feels like it's going to explode, and you are running on fumes -- it is time to take a break. Warning: if you don't, you'll dig yourself an even deeper rut.
3️⃣ Engage in an activity that recharges you and soothes your soul.
For me, that would be reading, writing, exercising, meditating, and connecting with a close friend. Whatever that activity is for you, do it with your full attention and intention.
4️⃣ Take care of yourself — mind, body, and spirit.
This, out of all the others, is the most important. Remember: You can't produce from an empty cup (believe me, I've repeatedly tried and failed).
Make sure you are eating well-balanced meals, hydrating, exercising, taking regular breaks (see # 1), etc.
5️⃣ Get back to it when you are feeling lighter and reenergized.
By 'lighter,' I mean that the weight you were carrying before is no longer holding you down. You feel lighter and untethered —physically, mentally, and emotionally.
You've had the chance to reset and recharge (i.e. fill your cup), and you've created a positive space to get back to it.
Always remember to put yourself first -- in your job search and your life!
