I miss my friend, Joe.
Joe passed away at the age of 92 a few years ago.
We were close.
The last memory I have of him was right before Christmas in 2019.
Joe treated my husband, son, and I to dinner and afterwards we took him through one of our favorite neighborhoods to look at Christmas lights.
I watched as my friend transformed into a child again as he looked out the car window ‘oohing’ and ‘aahing’ in response to the beautiful displays.
As his dear face glowed in the warmth of the twinkling lights, I thought to myself:
“I want this to last forever.”
It was a moment in time that felt so very magical…
A moment that continues to live on in my heart.
May this holiday season invite presence, magic, love, and wonder to you and yours, and may the cherished memories of those who’ve passed on fill your heart with love and joy.
Words for reflection:
“Our hearts grow tender with childhood memories and love of kindred, and we are better throughout the year for having, in spirit, become a child again at Christmastime.” — Laura Ingalls Wilder
