Job searching in this market sucks.
I know this goes without saying, but it bears repeating because the
issues people are experiencing are real and they are still happening - from layoffs, ghosting, ageism, scamming tactics, and more.
My heart goes out to those of you who are in the job-searching trenches right now. It is an understatement to say that it is a challenging time to be a job seeker.
Every day on LinkedIn, I read posts from individuals candidly expressing their struggles, further shedding light on the mental health challenges they are facing as a result.
Today, I just wanted to take a moment to say that I see you and that I empathize with you. Although it does not fix things, I want you to know that I have been there before. It sucks. It's frustrating. It's scary.
At some point, the tables will turn. It did for me, and they will for you. Until then, however, it is incredibly important to take care of your mental health, especially if you are feeling like you are at the end of your rope.
I'm here with gentle support and encouragement to prioritize your self-care. You matter and so does your well-being. You wouldn’t expect a loved one or friend to push through when they are struggling… why would you expect that of yourself?
Sometimes all it takes is getting some fresh air and feeling the sun on your face to start feeling better. The key is getting back to a healthy outlook and mindset, and some activities can help you get there such as the ones we have included below.
Lastly, if you are really struggling right now, please know there is help out there. One resource is 9-8-8. Call or text the three-digit number to be connected with a trained crisis counselor 24/7.
❣Take breaks.
The quickest way to get into a mental rut is by pushing through and not allowing yourself to take breaks. Schedule intentional self-care time on your calendar - your mind, body, and soul will thank you for it.
❣ If you are feeling alone or isolated, connect with a trusted friend or family member.
Someone who will allow you to share without judgment.
❣Engage in an activity that will clear your mind and release tension.
Activities such as meditating, taking a walk outside, journaling, or listening to music.
❣Shift your perspective (easier said than done, I know).
Flip the narrative to thinking about what you learned from the experience. For example, were you ghosted by a potential employer? Consider that a red flag as you very likely dodged a bullet.
If an employer does not see your value, then why would you want to work for them in the first place? 💪
❣ Celebrate your successes (even if they don’t seem like true wins to you).
The small successes are a part of the journey, and when you look back on this time you will see that they led you to your big ones.
❣ Celebrate your successes both big and small (even if they don’t seem like true wins to you).
You got this, friends. I know it's hard, but you will get through it. You are not alone.
